What To Do When the Heat Goes Out03/08/2017Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little bad luck, but we sometimes see heat pump troubles in Crystal Lake during the winter time, when they’re required to keep you comfortable. While you know the team at Campbell's Tempracure will always be there ASAP when you require us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to confirm that a repair is important and save yourself some cash if it’s not. We’ve collected this checklist of things to test before you give us a call. It may sound ridiculous, but make sure everything is set to “on”. We’ve been to numerous calls only to discover the thermostat or the heat pump itself is set to off. Check your thermostat to make sure it’s on, switched to the appropriate temperature and isn’t fixed to cool. Then try changing the battery, if it has one. If everything looks right, check your furnace switch (check your manual if you’re unsure where it is) and check your fuses and circuit breaker. Double check that your gas is on. If the furnace still hasn’t turned on, return to your thermostat. If it’s a programmable model, make certain that it’s revealing the proper time. If it thinks it’s morning when it’s actually night, it may not turn your heat on because it doesn’t understand that you’re home. Is an obstruction causing your furnace to fail? Check your air filters to confirm they’re not clogging things up. Do you have any blocked ducts, vents or cool air openings? Are all supply registers exposed? Is your exhaust flue unobstructed? If you’ve worked through this checklist and you’re still without heat, call Campbell's Tempracure at 815-788-6283 or set up an appointment online and we’ll get your home back to the warm and cozy place it should be.
